Self-Trolling

I was listening to a podcast this morning and the host was speaking on soul gazing. If you have never practiced soul gazing (or have never heard of it) it is simply a practice of taking time to lock eyes with yourself in a mirror. Often your emotions that you have shoved down come up for you and it is an opportunity for you to love yourself in that moment and to show that you are there for yourself. Any other self-talkers out there? I speak to myself constantly and not always in a kind way.

There was a light-bulb moment when she was speaking. We are our own worst trolls.

We are all familiar with online trolls. I'm sure at times we have all been guilty of saying something online we wouldn't normally say to someone's face. I believe it is mainly because we forget that there is humanity on the other side of the technology. We don't have to look in someone's eyes, we aren't hurt when we see their reaction. We have become too bold.

Flash to life with ourselves.

We don't see ourselves. Think about it: How often do you really see yourself? Really look at yourself and see you. Never. I find maybe every three months I actually look at myself. The rest of the time I'm on autopilot just making sure I don't have something in my teeth or that my hair is decent enough.

I wonder what kind of compassion we could muster for ourselves if we practiced soul gazing. I'd imagine tons. Can you then imagine what that might mean in the world? Ripples of compassion and love.
