Spiced Vinegar

In April of this year I made my first batch of spiced vinegar. It’s surprisingly tasty. I use this as a bitter before I eat lunch and dinner or throughout the day when I feel I could use the little pick me up. I use roughly a teaspoon per use and dilute with water before drinking.

Here’s the simple easy recipe I have continued to use.

ingredients

4 oz Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)

1 Stick Cinnamon

1 Teaspoon Ginger Rhizome

3 Clove Buds

directions

Put apple cider vinegar and spices in a small mason jar. Put wax paper over the top (to prevent the vinegar from degrading the top of the mason jar. Cover and put in a cool, dry spot. I like to visit my mascerating herbs every 1-3 days to swirl them and make sure they are doing okay. After 4-6 weeks use a funnel lined with cheesecloth or coffee filter to move your spiced vinegar to the bottle it will be stored in.

Why is this special?

Apple cider vinegar is known for its varied health benefits. This is seemingly especially true when it is used with the mother.

Cinnamon is a gentle, warming herb that may help in the stabilization of blood-sugar levels. It is also thought to aid in healthy circulation.

Ginger is traditionally thought to be helpful for almost all digestive complaints. It is also thought to promote circulation, helping blood flow to the surface.

Clove has been regarded as a panacea in Southeast Asia for thousands of years. It are used often to help with digestive discomfort associate with the buildup of gas and may help with abdominal bloat.

As always, you should ask your health care provider before adding anything to your daily life. I’m simply sharing what has brought joy into my life. ;)
